Aspects of Baroque Style (VII) – Performance Practice & Sound in baroque music

The sound is the basic structure of Barouqe music style. “Performers are not quietly sure about how they presented the sound since they do not have a proof which is aural, like recordings.” When practicing a baroque piece with an instrument, using a baroque form bow or gut strings may be helpful to understand how the sound occurs. Still playing with a baroque instrument is more informative; performers would consciously transfer the sound they hear to the modern instruments. Still, practicing with baroque instruments or with the right instruments would not give any use for the wrong musicians – performers.

How to present a baroque sound with using baroque techniques depends on the performer. The sound which created by the performer’s own senses that suits the baroque music style, it would not be the wrong sound, just presented differently.

According to some musicians; we cannot represented the baroque pieces as we were in the 17th or 18th century because we make concerts in the 21st century, still it is useful to know the original balance of baroque era to interpret the stylistic of baroque music. In my opinion, these two thoughts are ironic because if we should not give the sound of baroque pieces as we were in that period, we do not have to know the original notation or balance, we can perform towards the contemporary music style.
